Speech, Swallow, and Communication Series: Language, Cognitive Communication, and Technology (2021)

In this webinar, speech-language pathologists (SLPs) Jasmine Cload and AJ Hildebrand highlighted the crucial role of speech pathology in managing Parkinson's disease, offering effective strategies for cognitive communication, and emphasizing the significance of technology in communication support.

They discussed the use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) tools such as voice amplifiers, text-to-speech apps, and communication boards, underlining their role in fostering social interaction and enhancing well-being for individuals with limited mobility.

CAYA, an organization in British Columbia, was introduced as a resource providing comprehensive AAC services, including assessments, device trials, and periodic check-ins, although continuous speech therapy was not within their scope of services. They emphasized the proactive approach for individuals to update their communication needs for effective support.
