Hospitalization and Parkinson's (2019)
Debra Mayer joins Parkinson Society BC to discuss hospitalization and Parkinson's, tips for how to best self-advocate in the hospital setting, and how you can make the most out of Parkinson Foundation's Aware in Care kits. Debra is a member of the Aware in Care advisory committee at the Parkinson's Foundation, and is a registered nurse specializing in critical care and emergency nursing. Her areas of practice include chronic and acute care nursing, clinical experiences, and simulation. She also teaches nursing full-time.
This webinar discusses the Aware and Care initiative, which seeks to educate healthcare staff and Parkinson's patients about the disease's needs in hospitals. It addresses issues like delayed medication and complications due to a lack of understanding about Parkinson's. The Parkinson's Foundation's Aware and Care campaign provides resources like medical alert bracelets, fact sheets, and action plans to empower patients and caregivers in hospitals.
