Ask the Expert: Palliative Care and Parkinson's (2019)

In this webinar, Kathleen Yue, from the BC Centre for Palliative Care, expressed gratitude for engaging with individuals and families affected by serious illness, fostering meaningful conversations. She emphasized discussing palliative care and a pre-crisis palliative approach. Additionally, she shared insights from the Centre for Palliative Care, promoting best practices for those with life-limiting illnesses.

Advanced care planning's importance in life-limiting illnesses was highlighted, prompting discussions about values, wishes, and medical decisions with loved ones and healthcare providers. Emphasis was on symptom management guidelines, providing holistic and personalized care.

The talk underscored assessing and understanding symptoms in palliative care, detailing factors, treatment options, and services. For medication effects on bowel movements, lifestyle changes were recommended. Modifications in food textures and environments were suggested for swallowing difficulties. Addressing psychosocial challenges like fear and grief, finding hope and meaning, were deemed crucial for overall well-being.
