Beyond the Tremors (2024)
Dr. Anish Kanungo presented this webinar on the non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, highlighting their importance and management. He explained that non-motor symptoms often appear before motor symptoms, indicating early disease involvement across multiple systems. Constipation, which affects over 58% of patients, can be managed through hydration and diet, while urinary issues are common and can be treated with bladder training and medications. Pain is frequently underreported but manageable with proper treatment, and speech difficulties, often addressed through therapies, can improve communication. Dr. Kanungo also discussed sleep disturbances, which can be treated with melatonin and medication adjustments, and emphasized the significance of managing mood disorders through cognitive behavioural therapy and medication.
