Nutrition and Parkinson’s Disease: Enhancing Wellbeing through Diet (2025)

Dr. Tracy Lister, a registered dietitian, discussed the significant role of diet in managing Parkinson’s disease (PD) symptoms and improving overall wellbeing during this webinar. She emphasized the importance of nutrition and detoxification, highlighting how a healthy gut microbiome and liver function are linked to brain health.

Dr. Lister explained how disruptions in the gut microbiome can influence PD progression and outlined dietary strategies that may slow the disease, such as incorporating essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. She detailed the liver’s detoxification phases, noting the nutrients required for each phase and the role of gut health in this process.

She also recommended the Mediterranean diet, stressing the avoidance of processed foods, high sugar, and low-nutrient options, while advocating for the consumption of high-quality proteins, vegetables, and healthy fats. She also discussed the benefits of physical activity, stress management, sleep, and social engagement in managing PD.
