New Diagnosis Workshop: Living Well with Parkinson’s Disease (2025)
In this webinar, neuro-physiotherapist Michelle McCarthy and nurse practitioner Joanna Davis from the UBC Movement Disorder Clinic shared practical strategies for managing Parkinson’s disease through active living.
They emphasized the importance of building a multidisciplinary care team to provide personalized, comprehensive support. Joanna and Michelle highlighted the need for consistent medication routines, using tools like alarms and organizers to aid adherence.
They addressed the significant impact of non-motor symptoms, recommending lifestyle and dietary adjustments to improve quality of life. Exercise was presented as a central component of symptom management, enhancing strength, coordination, and mental wellbeing.
Nutrition was also discussed, particularly the importance of a balanced diet and its interaction with medication timing.
