New Diagnosis Workshop: Etiology, Diagnosis, and Symptoms (2025)
In this webinar, Dr. Jonathan Squires explained that Parkinson’s disease stems from both genetic and environmental factors. He described the core motor symptoms as tremors, bradykinesia, rigidity, and postural instability, all of which progressively impacted mobility.
He also highlighted non-motor symptoms, including mood disorders, sleep disturbances, and autonomic dysfunction, noting their significant effect on quality of life.
Diagnosis, he stated, relied on clinical evaluation, patient history, and neurological examination, as there was no single definitive test. Dr. Squires mentioned that imaging was sometimes used to rule out other conditions but was not diagnostic on its own.
He emphasized the complexity of Parkinson’s and the need to recognize symptoms beyond movement-related issues. Throughout the webinar, Dr. Squires provided a clear overview aimed at improving understanding of the disease’s diverse manifestations.
