Complementary Therapies & Parkinson’s: Myths, Facts, and What Actually Works (2025)
Dr. Sanjay Mohan Ram, Naturopathic Physician, provided a detailed naturopathic perspective on Parkinson’s disease, focusing on its multifactorial causes, symptoms, and holistic treatment strategies. He explained that Parkinson’s arises from a mix of genetic predisposition and environmental toxins such as pesticides, heavy metals, and solvents, leading to oxidative stress, inflammation, and dopamine loss.
He also emphasized addressing root causes through personalized nutrition rich in antioxidants and healthy fats, while avoiding processed and chemically laden foods. Supplements including curcumin, CoQ10, glutathione, alpha-lipoic acid, and medical-grade fish oils were highlighted for their neuroprotective roles.
Exercise, particularly low-impact forms like Tai Chi, along with complementary therapies such as acupuncture, Chinese medicine, and physiotherapy, were shown to enhance mobility, cognition, and emotional well-being.
The webinar also discussed emerging treatments like intravenous NAD, peptides, and psilocybin, noting their experimental promise. Overall, it promoted an integrative, team-based approach combining naturopathic and conventional medicine to slow disease progression and improve quality of life.
